July 4, 2013

We all woke up at 7:15 am and ate breakfast. We walked to work and got to the boatyard at 8:00 am. We worked on shaping planks for the Phoenician craft, by wetting and bending the wood into shape. We drilled holes into the mortise and tenon joints and hammered in tree nails, with a wooden hammer. We installed two planks on the Phoenician craft, it seemed like an eternity working on these planks, but finally they are on the boat. We set up the frame to the Galveston outside and called it quits for the day at 2:00 pm. We then decided to eat lunch at Namaste, and had lamb burgers with Dr. Coker. We went to town on the bus and got trinkets for our family and friends, and baby clothing for Alfonso’s daughter. We then went back to the hostel and waited till it was time to go to the boatyard for supper. We got drinks at super sol for supper which consisted of wine, lemon Fanta and Coke. We waited in the boatyard for an hour and a half for Alfonso to show up. He showed up with a lot of family members and friends. Alfonso played us the national anthem with a harmonica, he learned how by listening to the song and repeating with the harmonica until he got it right. The party consisted of Dino, Jake, Brian, Kevin, Dr. Coker, Alfonso, Ernesto, Maria (Ernesto’s girlfriend), Alfonso’s wife, kid, Mom, Step-dad, and Neighbor film director. We ate pork chops, pork patties, torisimo(sausage), blood sausage, Russian salad, snacked on cheese, olives, potato chips, and crackers. The food was excellent and was cooked over nothing else but live oak from America. We drank Tinto De Verano, Coke and whiskey (that Alfonso brought to the table). Had a lot of fun talking and joking around until 2:00 am then called it quits and went to bed at 2:30 am.
